It was an exhilarating day for high school athletes across Orange County, with thrilling baseball, softball, lacrosse, and volleyball action lighting up the fields and courts. Let’s dive into the latest results and standout performances that made waves this week!

Baseball Thrills

In a gripping baseball showdown, the Huntington Beach baseball team edged out Edwardsville from Illinois, securing a victory with a score of 6-3. J. Grindlinger stole the spotlight with an impressive performance, racking up 2 hits and driving in 2 RBIs.

Over in Laguna Beach, the local team showcased their pitching prowess, taking down Capistrano Valley Christian with a solid 3-0 win. Pitcher Gonzales was simply stellar, throwing for 7 innings and allowing only 3 hits and 0 runs, while also recording 9 strikeouts. Adams was a strong contributor too, hitting in 2 RBIs.

Switching gears to softball, the Marina team came out on top against Fountain Valley, clinching a win with a score of 4-0. It looks like they’re gearing up for a great season ahead!

La Mirada Classic

The La Mirada Classic delivered some nail-biting matches:

  • Beckman: 7, La Serna: 6
  • Downey: 8, Whittier Christian: 7
  • Orange Lutheran: 9, Chino: 1
  • South Hills: 4, Beckman: 3
  • Orange Lutheran: 11, Downey: 2

Lacrosse Action

In boys lacrosse, St. Margaret’s secured a victory over Foothill with a close score of 11-9. Meanwhile, in the girls’ division, Santa Margarita triumphed over Marlborough 17-10, and Los Alamitos edged out Canyon with a score of 10-8.

Volleyball Highlights

It was an action-packed day for boys volleyball too! Highlights included:

  • Loyola: defeated Mater Dei in a tough contest, featuring a set scores of 27-29, 25-21, 25-12, 25-20.
  • Calvary Chapel: overcame Avalon with a score of 25-13, 25-12, 25-18.
  • In another nail-biter, Calvary Chapel triumphed over Bishop Diego, finishing the match with a tense set score of 15-8 after five intense sets.

League News

In the Sunset League, Corona del Mar came out victorious against Los Alamitos, winning 8-6, driven by strong performances from Charlie Kaster and Brady Gadol. Over in the Crestview League, Villa Park defeated Cypress 5-3 with a grand slam by Dominic Gutierrez stealing the show.

The Pacific Coast League saw Irvine triumph over Woodbridge 6-1, leading to an exciting three-way tie for second place. Estancia highlighted the Coast League with a 7-1 victory against Savanna, thanks to pitcher Nico Viramontes. As for the Sea View League, Mission Viejo beat El Toro with an exciting score of 8-5, bolstered by standout Jack Boucher.

In the Golden West League, Kennedy successfully defeated Katella 4-1, with Anthony Hernandez showcasing an impressive complete game on the mound.

Moving on to the Empire League, Fullerton showcased power at the plate, earning a 10-5 victory over Ocean View with a total of 15 hits! In the Orange League, Bolsa Grande triumphed over Magnolia with a score of 11-6, and pitcher Tank Britton had a standout performance.

In a nail-biter, Tustin narrowly squeaked past Segerstrom, finishing the game with a score of 5-4.

All-Star Game Coaches Revealed

Lastly, excitement is in the air as the coaches for the upcoming 57th annual Orange County All-Star Baseball Game were announced. The North team will be led by Mike Caira from Pacifica, along with assistants Benji Medure from Huntington Beach, Bob Marshall from Calvary Chapel, and Ricardo Cepeda from Garden Grove. The South team will be headed by Burt Call from Villa Park, with support from Chris Malec (Santa Margarita), Dave Gellately (San Clemente), and Josh Lee (Newport Harbor).

The game, sponsored by the Ryan Lemmon Foundation, promises to be an exciting showcase of talent, continuing its tradition of celebrating high school baseball excellence in the community!
