Orange County is buzzing with creativity as the exciting 2025 semifinalists for the Artist of the Year program have just been unveiled! This marks the 12th anniversary of a program that shines a spotlight on the incredible artistic talent of our local youth. It’s an event that many have eagerly anticipated, and this year is no exception!
The Artist of the Year program was created as a companion to the well-loved Athlete of the Year honors. This initiative aims to recognize and support the shining stars in our community’s arts scene. A staggering 923 students from 82 local high schools and arts organizations were nominated this year. Talk about a talented pool of candidates!
A panel of dedicated arts teachers, well-versed in various disciplines such as theater, dance, instrumental and vocal music, film and TV, fine arts, and media arts, diligently worked to select 112 semifinalists. The selection process was no small feat! These talented individuals were evaluated based on their applications, performance videos, art portfolios, film samples, and artistic résumés.
Here’s where it gets even more exciting—these semifinalists will soon face interviews with distinguished artistic professionals and faculty from Southern California colleges. It’s a fantastic opportunity for them to showcase their skills and passions further! The program is divided into two categories based on the number of years of training:
When it’s all said and done, up to 28 finalists will be selected from this talented group of semifinalists. Four finalists will come from each discipline, and we’ll have at least one Division 2 student making it through to the finals! The excitement culminates with the crowning of seven students, one from each discipline, who will receive the prestigious title of 2025 Artist of the Year.
Wondering when these honors will be revealed? Circle Sunday, April 27, 2025, on your calendar! The names of the finalists and the Artists of the Year will be announced in a special section. But wait, the celebration doesn’t stop there! Join the community for an awards celebration on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Memorial Hall on Chapman University’s campus. And the best part? It’s absolutely free for everyone!
The awards celebration is set to be a fantastic event featuring dazzling performances and presentations by the top students. You won’t want to miss the opportunity to see some of our future stars in action!
This wonderful program is sponsored by the Chapman University College of Performing Arts and the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, with valuable support from Arts Orange County and generous individual donors. The mission is to honor and promote young artistic talent within our community.
