Los Angeles Braces for Rainy Weekend Ahead

News Summary

As the weekend nears, Los Angeles is preparing for significant rainfall brought by a storm from central California. With an 80% chance of rain expected on Saturday, residents are advised to stay indoors or carry umbrellas. While rain totals promise to provide some much-needed moisture after a dry spell, temperatures are set to drop. Sunday will bring drier conditions, transitioning to clearer skies by Monday. Stay cozy and safe as the storm approaches!

Los Angeles Prepares for a Rainy Weekend!

As the weekend approaches, the weather gods are preparing to shower down some much-needed April rain on Southern California. Los Angeles and its neighboring areas are gearing up for what looks like a rather wet Saturday, courtesy of a storm moving down from central California. The National Weather Service has raised the rain predictions for the area, making this a weekend to keep an umbrella handy!

Wet Weather on the Way!

According to forecasts, we can expect the bulk of the rain to hit Los Angeles County on Saturday afternoon. Residents in LA are facing an 80% chance of rain, which is quite significant. So, if you have any outdoor plans, you might want to think twice or at least bring a raincoat! As the storm makes its way south, cities like San Diego are looking at a 20% chance of rain, Newport Beach a 40% chance, and Temecula about 30%. It seems like the storm will be making its presence known across the Southland, so it’s time to cozy up indoors with a hot drink!

Rain Totals Looking Promising

The rain totals are similarly looking up, making Friday’s weather seem even more interesting. Forecasts suggest we could see around a third of an inch of rain in both Los Angeles and Ventura counties and possibly up to half an inch in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties. With Southern California currently experiencing a significant shortfall in precipitation for April—having received barely half of the average rainfall—this weekend’s showers will be a welcome sight.

Cool and Breezy

However, it won’t just be the rain that makes this weekend feel different. After an unusually warm few days, a deep marine layer and strong onshore flow will keep temperatures feeling on the chilly side. Friday may start off with a bit of drizzle, particularly near the foothills, but fear not—most areas should see some sunshine by the afternoon! But don’t get too comfortable; temperatures are expected to dive about 10 degrees below normal since Wednesday, and that cool trend will continue throughout the weekend.

In Riverside County, there will be chances of rain and even some thunderstorms after 11 a.m. on Saturday. Temperatures will sit around 60 to 65 degrees, perfect for curling up with a good book by the fire.

What to Expect on Saturday

As the rain kicks in from late morning to early afternoon in coastal regions, you can expect temperatures to range from 61 to 66 degrees in coastal Orange and San Diego counties. Meanwhile, mountain peaks have a winter weather advisory in place, predicting a healthy 3 to 5 inches of snow by Saturday night. Those chilly mountain tops will only reach a crisp 42 degrees, with lows plummeting to a frosty 20 degrees.

For the Inland Empire, expect a 70% chance of rain on Saturday, with high temperatures around the 60-degree mark. Meanwhile, the deserts will also feel the weather’s wrath with some gusty winds and high temperatures predicted to hit only 54 degrees and lows around 39 degrees.

Sunday: A Transition Day

As the storm system moves east by Saturday evening, there might be a few residual showers lingering into Sunday morning. Don’t worry too much, though—Sunday is expected to dry up, bringing slightly warmer temperatures to the area, offering you a chance to get outside and enjoy your Sunday!

Upcoming Weather Changes

Looking ahead, a high-pressure ridge is predicted to roll in by Monday, providing much clearer and warmer conditions across the West Coast. So keep your spirits high; it seems like Southern California will soon return to its usual sunny self!

Get ready for a cozy, rainy weekend, Los Angeles! Whether you’re snuggling up at home or braving the weather for a coffee run, stay safe and dry out there!
